Meticulous attention to detail

Thron

What an amazing collection!

Tiny plates, knives, forks, chairs, tables and pots and pans, all of them miniature reproductions, but so incredibly lifelike.

Both young and old will admire these exquisite tiny toys and dolls' houses made with such meticulous attention to detail.

Our ancestors must have been enchanted by them and you will be too, if you visit Ellwangen Castle Museum.

In the museum you can also discover how nobly the prince-provosts once wined and dined.

A wealth of history

Treppenhaus

And did you know there was once a faience factory in Schrezheim near Ellwangen?

The factory was still in production until the middle of the 19th century - and the evidence that it once existed is here for you to see.

Valuable collectors' items from this fruitful period are also on display in the castle. Such a wealth of history and it's all in Ellwangen Castle Museum!

But the castle is not just a museum.

Today, you can enjoy the festive atmosphere of the Grand Hall by visiting one of the classical concerts held in July and August, which we can highly recommend.

This room has superb acoustics -a marvellous place to spend an evening listening to classical masterpieces performed by leading touring ensembles.

The Alamanni are invading!

Limes

- an invasion which took place on Ellwangen's doorstep!

The Limes ran less than 10 km away from Ellwangen.

This ancient wall marked the border between the Roman Empire and the land of the Germanic tribes.

Around 260 A.D. the word spread quickly, "The Alamanni are invading!", when the Germanic tribe crossed the Limes and captured the area surrounding Ellwangen, leaving traces of major archaeological importance.

Who were the Alamanni? How did they live? How did they spend their days?

If you are keen to find out the answers to these questions and learn more about their colourful lives, then make a point of visiting the new Alammani Museum (opening in autumn 2001), which is situated near the large parking area called ’Schießwasen’.
